Those longing for the real heavy music have been blessed with Alter Bridge coming to UK before Christmas. Two supporting bands were hands down equally as loud and energetic. The first band to perform was UK’s The Raven Age (TRA) taking Sevendust’s place after they had to postpone their participation in the tour because of drummer’s illness. The guys from TRA showed exactly why they were chosen to share the stage with Shinedown and Alter Bridge. Touching lyrics, melodic music and confidence on stage were the key elements that sparked the interest for those who were not familiar with TRA. Great way to start the show.
Shinedown were definitely prepared to not just play their songs but make it memorable and as intimate as possible. All band members were wearing costumes with elements of black and yellow. Stage design was also made in the same colour pattern with big exclamation marks to make sure that they get all audience’s attention on they. Very clever! In the middle of their set frontman – Brent Smith – took out a big plastic bazooka to shoot t-shirt balls into the audience. We can only wonder how happy the receivers of the balls were. Light design and crisp quality of sound proved that Shinedown have a great experience and that they put as much care and thought into their production as possible.
After them the headlines of the night took the stage. Alter Bridge didn’t use loud colours. Their music and absolutely phenomenal enthusiasm are so infectious that all attention is on them regardless of what is happening behind or around them. Graphics design on the screens was made with great thoughtfulness showing parts of the band’s music videos, cartoons and other types of visuals perfectly fitting to each song. Guitars, drums, bass and vocals are morphing into the machine named Alter Bridge. During “Blackbird” they played a couple of seconds of The Beatles “Blackbird” which gave to the performance a very heartwarming touch. Every song was distinctive and with it’s own message and purpose. Such bands are rare, they move people and show how to set one’s life priorities in a right way.
