EP REVIEW : Turtle – ‘Colours’ EP

Turtle Colours EP

If you’ve not heard of Glaswegian producer and songwriter Jon Cooper (aka ‘Turtle’) then you’re in for a real treat. Cooper has an uncanny gift of being able to create stunning ambient music with gentle beats and hushed vocals that leaves the listener in a place of utter rapture.

Forthcoming EP ‘Colours’ is the second from the artist and is further evidence of why so many seem to be talking up this Scottish songsmith. The 2013 ‘Who Knows’ EP received plaudits from a wide range of music professionals including the likes of Lauren Laverne, Gilles Peterson, Nemone, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephen and it would be safe to say that this new release is about to increase Coopers fan-base considerably.

Both ‘Lavender’ and ‘Silent Weapons’ have already been released from the EP and the former is probably the strongest track on offer here. The track builds from a steady start to a triumphant climax and simply demands the use of the repeat button as the final notes fade.

This is an accomplished EP that hopefully warms things up nicely for full release later in the year.

‘Colours’ EP is out on the 11th May 2015, via Beatnik Creative.
