With ‘Destroy Something Beautiful’ Chasing Cadence have produced a very credible and polished debut, if you wake up the day after the first listen with a chorus line rolling around your head you know it has something special going on – ‘Destroy Something Beautiful’ does exactly that.
The lead single off the EP ‘Everyone Relax’ takes a catchy hook in the chorus and couples it with an earworm of a riff that swoops and soars spectacularly. The contrast between sweet and shouty vocals and the balance of fast pace and slow is well judged, mostly lead by the vocal this is an EP that relies on melody and in doing so certainly has a marketable aspect not always seen in the alt-rock genre.
Time will tell if these five young men from Hertfordshire have got what it takes to maintain this momentum but they certainly have the song writing talent and when performing live they are largely energetic and enthusiastic. If there was to be a criticism leveled at them, then maybe they are too good, too polished, too practiced, too attractive, and their authenticity may be called into question. Buy this if you like Young Guns, Ava Grace, Don Broco you won’t be disappointed, if they play live near you go and see them but be prepared to ‘bounce’ – they insist on it.
The self-released ‘Destroy Something Beautiful EP’ is out on Sept 16th
