Sometimes the best bands and the greatest songs are created by pure chance, that’s exactly how Hacktivist entered the world. Four years later and following successful tours with bands like Korn and Enter Shikari, and playing massive festivals such as Sonisphere and Download, Hacktivist have finally given us the debut album we’ve all been waiting for.

The release of ‘Outside the Box’ comes as the band’s first album since forming in 2011. The debut album follows the 2013 EP release of the self-titled ‘Hacktivist,’ and gives 11 new tracks for us to get stuck into, plus the song ‘Elevate’ taken from this EP. It’s taken a while, but the band have managed to produce an album that is sure to get people listening, talking and get fired up about.

Heavy, direct, hard-hitting and powerful are just a few words that come to mind when listening to ‘Outside the Box’. The band’s mixture of musical styles such as heavy metal and grime, along with appearances from Jamie Graham from Heart Of A Coward, Marlon Hurley, and Rou Reynolds from Enter Shikari have all fallen in to place perfectly, setting a good foundation for an already popular and growing band. Hacktivist make it very clear with the message they’re trying to deliver with this album, and that is a message of love for the fans, hate for the haters, and making sure we know that they will not change for anyone. The band are trying to tell a story with this album, and that has definitely been achieved, with strong hard hitting lyrics through-out, the band has made sure their message gets across.

‘Outside the Box’ may not be to everyone’s taste, the musical cocktail can sometimes be hard swallow, but Hacktivist seem to have done a pretty good job of making this album sound great. The track ‘Deceive and Defy’ featuring Jamie Graham caters more to the metal fans of Hacktivist, with its hard and heavy riffs and the voice of Jamie Graham screaming over it, you can’t help but feel the force of this track as its fired at you.

The song ‘Taken’ features the voice of Rou Reynolds from Enter Shikari, the hard hitting lyrics and fast paced beat gets you pumped and wanting to hear more, listening to this track you can only imagine how fired up crowds will get and the size of the mosh pits it will create. The album re-introduces us to the track ‘Elevate’ taken from the debut EP ‘Hacktivist,’ reminding us that creative to the band’s journey will continue through the new album, and should continue into the future. Hacktivist have been a lot more experimental with the album compared to the EP and it’s paid off, the end result is a unique sound that you can’t help but like in some way.

‘Outside the Box’ will have your inner music fan battling with itself, trying to decide which part of each track it likes the most. It will have you dancing, rocking and thinking all at the same time, putting your heart and your head at war with which other. For fans of Hacktivist, this album will blow you away, and for those new to Hacktivist, this album will blow you away!

‘Outside the Box’ is out now via UNFD (Rise Records for North America).
