Ricki Ayela

Take 5 : Ricki Ayela

Ricki Ayela takes us behind the scenes

Ricki Ayela started her career at a very young age. Performing often in talent shows and venues across Canada. Specializing in pop, with influences like Amy wine house, Shawn Mendes and jhene aiko. Ricki recently released her debut EP called “over complicated” which touches on love, emotional isolation,  with a mix of upbeat California vibes. She once again recruited producer Jaylien Wesley (notable for his songs produced for akin, will.i.am, Britney Spears, Ty Dolla sign, and many more) and they have 4 more singles set to release by October of 2020.

How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as pop fusion. I really love pop music as a foundation and I like to incorporate and infuse it with a little jazz and r&b.

Who are some of your musical influences?

Some of my main influences in music would be Amy Winehouse, Eminem (for his lyrical genius) Kiana Ledé, Shawn Mendes and more!

What is your songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

My song writing process is always changing, what inspires me today might not inspire me tomorrow. I definitely start with basic chords and then start creating melodies before lyrics.

Recently I’ve been co writing with producers on already produced tracks which has been a new experience. It great, figuring out other people’s process ; always learning.

You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way fo you to connect with your fans?

Social Media is great because it’s given underground artists a platform to pursue music, arts, etc. My most followed platform currently would be Instagram and it’s amazing because I see people from all over the world on my page. It’s crazy to know someone in Cambodia, where I’ve never been, knows my name.

What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

Thank you so much for sticking by me over the years and we got so much more coming ! I’m so excited for you guys to see what I’ve got in store 🙂
