Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber have teamed up to release the song, “Monster.” The hit is the second single off Mendes’ upcoming studio album, Wonder, set to be released December 4th.
Many fans thought the Canadians were rivals after Bieber married Mendes’ reported ex-flame Hailey Baldwin, but the two singers seem to be great friends and even joke about beating each other in hockey.
“Monster” talks about dealing with the pressures of fame and success and how fans put artists on a pedestal and expect them to be perfect, but in reality they are only human and can trip, sin, and fall, like anyone else. Mendes is not stranger to the topic of battling demons. He released “In My Blood” on his last album, which talks about anxiety.
The video depicts the singer literally ‘standing on a pedestal’ by climbing a big white building. They each deliver powerful lines and really put all of their emotion into it.
Fans can see the songwriting process of this song and many more in Mendes’ upcoming documentary, In Wonder, which will drop on Netflix on Monday, November 23rd.
Mendes and Bieber also revealed during their release night livestream that they will be performing “Monster” together at the American Music Awards this Sunday.
Wonder the album will be released on December 4th. “Monster” is now available to stream everywhere.
