Whilst distinctly lacking in live shows, 2020 has still managed to be a beautiful year for Cardiff daydreamers Rosehip Teahouse. With the new year in sight, we can look back over a number of colourful additions that have joined the ranks of the bands discography over the course of the last 11 months. From the early teasing of August release ‘Chillin in the Void’ (Sad Club Records) through to Septembers preview of ‘I Meant What I Said’ the 5 piece have come through with their hearts on their sleeves, each track interweaving a synth poppy ode to the next.
‘Summer Sleep’ , the most recent single in the quintets collection is the third track taken from the bands impending December release ‘Fine’, – a tale of a difficult farewell and a glimpse into this songwriters most intimate moments. Rosehip Teahouse never fail to bring a tear to the eye, and ‘Summer Sleep’ is no different. Glistening guitar lines glide through the caverns of the mind,a floating bed for a beautiful vocal performance.
Each line seems to possess a melancholy tension, a unique juxtaposition between uplifting & downtrodden. Rosehip Teahouse are vastly becoming an entity full of unique properties. These people aren’t just musicians, they are adventurers, each body of work opening a new door to the last. A place to escape to, whatever your mood.
Tender, expressive & well presented ‘Summer Sleep’ sets a stunning precursor to what is sure to be another wonderful release, and cements the Cardiff artists firmly in their scene as ones to watch.
