POESY ‘Diamonds’ Track Review

Introducing Toronto’s newest singing sensation, POESY & her latest stunning, emotionally driven pop-rock single, Diamonds.

Introducing Toronto’s newest singing sensation POESY, otherwise known as Sarah Botelho. She’s been on the scene and making music for some time now following her big break on Canada’s hit talent contest, THE LAUNCH. POESY won first place on the show for her stunning rendition of ‘Soldier of Love’ which topped the charts and soon saw her and her incredible vocals propelled to national fame!

Since then, the young singer-songwriter has been hard at work crafting her own unique sound and aesthetic woven together by a mix of influences from innovative, enigmatic artists such as Kate Bush and Freddie Mercury, to 90s alternative rock queens PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, and fellow Canadian singer, Alanis Morissette. A year on from the release of her highly successful EP, POESY is back again with her latest musical offering in the form of the stunning, emotionally driven pop-rock anthem, ‘Diamonds’.

Inspired by a difficult period in her life, POESY hopes that ‘Diamonds’ will offer listeners the same healing that she gained from writing it. A deeply personal and intimate song, POESY bares her soul in the most intimate and beautiful way on ‘Diamonds’. She can be heard retelling the tales of battling with her ‘light’ and ‘dark’ sides throughout the song, representing the internal struggle within her, a feeling many of us can relate to, which is what makes the message in ‘Diamonds’ so poignant and timeless.

“Diamonds is at its core, a song about experiencing a dark time and trying to drag yourself through to the other side. It’s about the pressure you put on yourself that leaves you with dark inner turmoil. I’ve dragged myself out of that countless times so I hope Diamonds can do that for someone else. I called it Diamonds because they’re a substance that is made under huge amounts of pressure, but they’re also so valuable – just like we are. So be gentle with yourself…”
