We are all created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26), which means we are placed on this earth to fulfill a purpose. Gospel singer, Omphile Madiba, found his purpose when he chose to answer the calling to spread God’s word through music. Therefore, there could not have been a more suitable title for Omphile’s first creation and extended play (EP) than Higher Calling (1 Samuel 3: 10).
Omphile’s six track EP includes his previous radio single Give Grace as the lead single from this project. The project also comprises tracks such as Sedi Laka and Uyingcwele sung in vernacular to reach and preach the word to the multicultural society, which is the all encompassing diverse fabric of his native South Africa. The title single, Higher Calling, describes the central concept of the album. The track You Are Here rounds the project off. This solo offering is not only geared to satisfy Christian/praise music enthusiasts, but also serves as a reminder about the importance of wilful servitude, humility and submission to every ear that will encounter it. The album is available in digital stores.
Omphile began his musical career while he was a student at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and sang in the UJ Choir under the mentorship of Renette Bouwer. This experience led Omphile to perform Stabat Mater at the Johannesburg Hall (Johannesburg, South Africa ) and the Carnegie Hall (New York City, USA), under the directorship of the legendary instrumentalist Karl Jenkins. Omphile was part of the now inactive gospel group Praise Infinity, which was discovered by Harvey Roberts and signed under Bula Music (owned by Gallo Music).
