With the new year steadily looming and the release date of LP number 3 rapidly gaining ground, Cambridge rockers Lonely The Brave release the third single from January’s eagerly anticipated ‘The Hope List’- the bands’ first album in almost five years.
Following the departure of lead vocalist David Jakes in 2018, fans were left in limbo with an uncertainty looming ahead, and an enormous elephant in the room. Some may have expected the band to crumble at the loss of such an integral part of their machine, and understandably so – however fast forward to 2020 and we have a surprisingly different story.
Now fronted by Jake Bessant (aka Grumblebee), Lonely The Brave are back with their own unmistakable brand of uplifting alternative rock, and the vocals have a bit of a twist. In a pleasant change of pace we’ve seen that instead of attempting to fill some sizable shoes, Jack Bessant has brought his own. ‘Bound’, ‘Distant Light’ & now ‘Bright Eyes’ have met & surpassed the expectations of any frantic fans tenfold, and have set the bar high for the remaining 8 tracks on January’s comeback record.
The importance of listening is often overlooked, and what better way to reinforce this message than with such a melody. A spectrum of emotions pulsate throughout its 3 minutes of play time, and there’s certainly no lack of those distinct, overwhelming choruses that grafted the bands initial fame. ‘Bright Eyes’ contains a well placed narrative and a dynamic performance with explosive tendencies throughout. Rich guitar tones and a groove filled rhythm section build a huge stadium atmosphere, and lay a solid foundation for the bands impending UK tour.
