Rising Canadian star Just John releases ‘Open Wound’, the focus track taken from his debut solo EP, This Is Fate. The song follows on from previous singles ‘1000 corpses’ and ‘Black Ghost’ which were released on Halloween and Friday, November 13th, respectively.
Wearing his heart on his sleeve, Just John’s incredibly relatable lyricism is rawly conveyed and incredibly poignant in ‘Open Wound’, he touches on themes of loneliness, belonging & self-expectation that he admits were deliberately created to get you thinking. Just John’s music speaks directly to those who want to expand their minds and broaden their horizons if they’re willing to listen. He is for the enlightened or those who wish to be enlightened, the kids that want to be the best versions of themselves.
Speaking on his This is Fate EP, John states that:
“This is for the dreamers, the misfits, the ones who never give up even when they’re down, unheard or misunderstood”.
Commanded by the melody of an acoustic guitar and overlaid with drum-heavy, hip-hop beats and distorted, alien-like vocals, ‘Open Wound’ is a sonic offering unlike any other. Just John’s clever fusion of hip-hop, punk and rock elements open up a whole new world of sound that on paper shouldn’t work at all but somehow fits together perfectly on the track, resulting in a wholly unique soundscape that transcends genre entirely. ‘Open Wound’ is an incredible piece of music that’s complex and layered in both meaning and instrumentation, whilst still being easy to digest and a pleasure to listen to. ’Open Wound’ is an undeniably fantastic solo debut for Just John, be sure to look out for the accompanying video elements for each single from the This Is Fate visual EP.
