Throughout the course of 2020, Jerry Castle has emerged from being acclaimed by those in the know to become a hot tip throughout the international Americana community. The tracks that have previewed the October 16th release of his third album ‘Midnight Testaments’ have resulted in the most substantial media attention and streaming stats of his career to date. Jerry today shares another taste of the album in the shape of his new single ‘Stars Align’, which was premiered on Maverick yesterday. Watch the video HERE.

In contrast to the gritty, party-starting energy of ‘Tequila & Tears’ or the laidback reflection of ‘Calm’, Jerry Castle’s new single ‘Stars Align’ is an old school country vibe with some modern day observations (“Life is like a drunken text”). That timeless style is captured with the help of a highly accomplished band, whose previous credits include everyone from The Chicks and Keith Urban to Joe Bonamassa and Train.

‘Stars Align’ explores an idea that Jerry first delved into on his previous single ‘Make Do’. Whereas that song celebrated the freedom of doing your best when fate deals you a bad hand, ‘Stars Align’ is about embracing the fact that life is a tumultuous rollercoaster of ups, downs and everything in-between. So what can you do aside from strap in for the ride?

I wrote all of the lyrics to this song before I ever picked up a guitar and put music to it,” says Jerry. “The song is about the fact that sometimes you can do everything right and things still don’t work out the way you want. Nonetheless, the ride of life is a beautiful one. It takes the downs to make the ups feel good and it takes the ugly to make you recognise the beautiful.”

‘Stars Align’ reiterates Jerry Castle’s belief that each song should have a life of his own. It’s an attitude very much present in ‘Midnight Testaments’. It presents music for all moods, from the happy to the heartbroken, equally suited to soundtracking afternoons on the highway or last orders at the bar. And stylistically, Jerry darts between lanes at will, from booze-soaked Americana, to soulful southern rock, rootsy country and anthemic heartland rock. It’s a vision that’s entirely his, and one that’s setting him up for a well-deserved breakthrough. Pre-Save the album HERE.

It’s also a record informed by his surroundings. It finds him revisiting the pedal steel guitar and soul music that resonated throughout his roots in the Appalachian Mountains. It was recorded at Trace Horse Studio in Nashville: Music City of course being not only the spiritual home of the music that Jerry excels at, but also a place with a like-minded community of world class musicians. The songs were all written in a tumultuous time in his life, during which he fell in love, got married, mourned the death of close friends and reflected on his life’s journey.

Castle isn’t one for looking back, but his back story gives a flavour for where he’s now at. Raised in rural Virginia, his music has taken him to living in Los Angeles and working as a songwriter in the heart of Nashville. He has released critically acclaimed independent albums and played thousands of shows.

Highlights include a five-week run at the top of the Roots Music Folk Rock Charts with his single ‘She Kills’, plus praise from Rolling Stone, who described his 2018 track ‘Lil Bit’ as “one of the most instantly catchy – and danceable – songs about being pissed off this year.” That set the foundations for ‘Midnight Testaments’ to elevate Jerry Castle to the next level.
