Effortlessly combining Pop and R&B melodies with more experimental Alternative Electronic elements, IOTA PHI, real name Ilia Darlin, is a Greek singer songwriter, director and record producer who draws heavy inspiration from the ideas of identity, post humanism and even Greek mythology.
Opening with warm synths and graceful strings, ‘Wolves Mate For Life’ starts delicate and small, before gradually becoming ever more textured as the track progresses with punchy 808 drums and pounding, upbeat electronic loops. IOTA PHI’s evocative, reverb soaked vocal lines provide a stirring overlay to the track, managing to fuse the traditional Pop sounds with more avant-garde sentiments, resulting in a contemporary soundscape reminiscent of FKA twigs, The xx and Portishead.
“Songs grow inside of me parallel to my life” states IOTA PHI in regards to the track. “Some take years. Reading back the lyrics, the words “My tears are watering your flowers” stand out and all I’m trying to say is that it’s never too late to realise things and change your life; find the strength to be who you really are.”
‘Wolves Mate For Life’ stands as the haunting first offering from her upcoming album ‘Homo Pauperis’, which is entirely self-produced, alongside assistance from Mikael Delta (Stereo Nova) and is set to be released through IOTA PHI’s newly launched record label, Desire Bay.
