INTRODUCING : Ferentz and The Felons

Ferentz and The Felons is the musical vision of singer-songwriter Zak Ferentz. Raised in Hudson County, NJ, Ferentz took artistic influence from the urban community in which he grew up in. From growing up in public housing, to being raised by parents that battled heavy drug addiction, Ferentz spent most of his adolescence and early adulthood battling physical, mental and spiritual adversities that he was able to overcome when he discovered music. Channeling not only his own but others’ struggles, Ferentz aims to amplify the voice of the voiceless and to build a community rooted in positivity.

Tombstone is an anthem for anyone that spent time on the streets. This life can really take a hold of you and drive you under. This song means more than anything I’ve written because I’m bringing up a time in my life where I was closest to defeat. I was running the streets harder than ever causing harm to not only myself, but everyone around me. This is from the heart, pure and honest

Welcome to Gigsoup Introducing ! Please tell us where you come from ?

I am from the planet of Mercury lol, Na really through time from Hudson County, NJ.

Tell us about your new release..

Tombstone is a song that I had been sitting on for a while. It’s about a moment in my life that I wasn’t always proud of. Running the streets and living a life of crime was something that always intrigued me, and I went into that world head first. A big part of Tombstone was also written for a brother/mentor of mine, Matty Daly. We Lived such similar lives and wound up getting out of that world together. He’s a huge inspiration behind the song, and a huge inspiration to me in general. I guess what I’m saying is that this song is for anyone that has taken a wrong turn in life but wants a way out.

What next ?

I should be gearing up to leave for a full European tour with my brother Jared Hart but due to the outbreak of Covid-19 everything has been put on hold. I choose to adapt and overcome with the times so right now I’m working on a ton of new music, the Felons clothing line, and also visual art.

Can you tell us … ‘If I wasn’t making music, I’d be ….. ‘ ?

I’d be pursuing a life of happiness. I mean that’s really all I’m doing now, music just happens to be at my forefront.

And finally … who are the artists inspiring you at the moment?

I’ve been heavily inspired by visual artists from my community lately, please check out Distort, Wyseme and JC Hundreds Mural Co, 4SAKN, Goomba, and Anna Sibel. As for music, it’s so many but I’m gonna name a few; Madball, E-Town Concrete, John Moreland, First Blood, Wish You Were Here, and my bro Psalm.
