Turn your radar and radio onto rising UK talent, the incredible Asha Gold.
After the release of her last two singles, ‘Too Good’ in 2019 and ‘Passenger’ earlier this year, Asha’s music was met with both phenomenal praises from fans, and critical acclaim from major industry tastemakers including Clash, Earmilk and Colors to name a few.
Now, the young singer has unveiled her latest work, a light and airy R&B/pop fusion track called ‘Debut’, produced by Mitch Jones. Funnily enough, the song is said to have been co-written by Asha and Mitch during quarantine, via a zoom call with the Brighton-based producer. Not being one to let a global pandemic get her down, Asha has continued to make music and shine throughout the year, so much so that she became the first official signee to Bad Key Records, a label in her home town of London.
But aside from a sweet-voiced, cool-clothed young lady, who loves chicken and chips, who exactly is Asha Gold?
Well, there’s a lot more to the 19-year-old West Londoner than initially meets the eye. With an incredible drive and distinct creative vision, Asha has placed herself in a league of fiercely independent female pop divas who are taking charge of their music and their looks, as she also places great importance on asserting her own individuality and creativity.
Her innate determination comes as no surprise considering some of Asha’s biggest inspirations are women like Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Rosalía and Billie Eilish; strong, leading women who built themselves and their careers from the ground up. Asha, like many women, particularly looks up to the Queen B not only for her incredible work ethic and commanding stage presence but also for her humanitarian work and stand on feminist and racial issues, issues which Asha is also particularly passionate about.
With ‘Debut’ set to be the starting track on her upcoming, first EP, Asha Gold is definitely one to watch. At such a young age and filled with so much drive and talent, the road ahead of Asha is hers for the taking.
