Circle of Light Livestream Will Showcase ‘A Creative Explosion’ of New Music

The life changing Circle of Light project is showcasing a new generation of artists with a live stream event on Friday 28 August packed with new music created by young people coming out of lockdown.

The three week project will culminate in a takeover of the Fisher Gate Point Centre for the Arts venue for the livestream kicking off at 7pm on the project’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/circle.of.light.nottingham)

One of the first music projects funded nationally by Youth Music to take place ‘in person’ since the pandemic, Circle of Light 2020 has seen 25 young people come together and create music at the new home for Circle of Light in Nottingham.

New participants this year were mentored by the young people who took part in the first Circle of Light in 2019 to continue their professional development in the music industry and building confidence and employability skills.

Project lead Tricia Gardiner said: “We’ve all been blown away with how well the project has evolved this year.  It was like a creative explosion for the young people coming out of lockdown to work with our mentors from last year to collaborate, write and record together. The result is a wonderfully upbeat and joyful album of new music. It’s also been particularly special to see our 2019 cohort transform from their early tentative beginnings to being assured mentors helping to guide and deliver the project this year.”

Following the new guidance permitting singing to take place along with COVID safe measures, the livestream showcase at 7pm Friday 28 August will feature 20 performances across different spaces in the venue along with green screen visuals, music videos, films and interviews

It will be followed up with a digital album release of the tracks created this year in October featuring a wide range of genres with an upbeat feel.

Award-winning rapper Scorz-zay-zee, West End performer Molly-May Gardiner and DJ, music producer and events organiser Lukas Wigflex were lead mentors.
