Blanks, previously of YouTube fame, has just released his debut EP, ‘cheap sodas and ice cream kisses’, which gathers together some of his best-loved tracks from his career thus far.

Named as “one of the most exciting and adventurous songwriters working today” by Music News, Blanks proves he is more than capable of living up to this hefty title with the release of his debut EP, ‘cheap sodas and ice cream kisses’.

Always euphoric and perfect for a summer listening party, Blanks’ EP is led by the release of his new track, ‘Favourite Nightmare’, which tackles the confusing and disorienting emotions which surround the fall out of a break up. Whilst this topic is at risk of becoming less-than-cheerful, the track is immediately injected with Blanks’ unrelenting enthusiasm and energy, and absolute ability to see the positive in anything and any topic placed in front of him.

This is a theme we see throughout the album, with Blanks’ undefeated positive outlook present in every song, even through the topics of break ups, the bewildering isolation of lock down and the futility of searching for meaning in modern day technology which permeate this EP.

With his debut single – an 80s version of Post Malones ‘Better Now’ – currently going viral on TikTok, the groovy bassline and 80s-style synths of ‘Favourite Nightmare’ are very much in keeping with the strengths of this YouTube sensation-turned-pop star. Blanks has made no secret of the fact he is in love with the 80s, and each song pays homage to this era of synths and basslines.

With this release coming during a summer in which we need all the positivity we can get, and the news of all live dates successfully rescheduled for 2021, ‘cheap sodas and ice cream kisses’ is set to be a 2020 summer staple of everyone’s playlists.
