Vocalist and Keyboard player Carey Lander died yesterday after battling osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, for a number of years.
The news was announced by Camera Obscura via their official Facebook page. “It is with the greatest sadness, that we must share the news that Carey passed away peacefully this morning after her illness with cancer. We have lost our friend and band mate, and our deepest sympathy goes out to her partner Kenny, and to all her family and friends.”
The remaining members of the indie-pop band – Gavin Dunbar, Lee Thompson, Tracyanne Campbell and Kenny McKeeve – have been ‘touched’ by the support fans gave to the fundraising campaign set up by Lander in aid of Sarcoma Research UK. They will continue to promote the campaign on her behalf and are encouraging people to do the same. “She was left in no doubt how much you all loved and appreciated her, and we’d like to thank you all for the support and kind words you have been sending to us and her, the band, our music, and all of you who have enjoyed it over the years, meant so much to her.”
Tributes have been flooding in through Facebook and Twitter from the likes of Franz Ferdinand, The Cribs and Zooey Deschanel, amongst others.
Heartbreaking news. Please take a moment to read Carey’s Sarcoma UK JustGiving page which you can still donate to.
