Amidst allegations of sexual assault against Ben Hopkins, PWR BTTM cancelled tomorrow’s free show at Rough Trade in Brooklyn. Scheduled as the release show for ‘Pageant,’ the announcement follows a controversial non-apology (see below). In the post, PWR BTTM say the allegations “come as a surprise“. Despite this, both T-Rextasy and Sadie Dupuis each claimed this is misleading.
First, Dupuis said they were “100% proof positive that everyone involved has known about these allegations for at least 3 months“. Later, T-Rextasy shared, “We wish we could say these allegations come as a complete surprise“. Beyond that, the group said, “someone came to us privately + warned us that they had these experiences w Ben“. Lastly, showing remorse for their culpability, T-Rextasy asked others “to be honest in regards to their complicity in this situation“.

The cancellation raises questions about future tour dates. In June, PWR BTTM is supposed to play several shows with Tancred and Nnamdi Ogbonnaya. In July, they have more shows planned with Iji and T-Rextasy. Also, PWR BTTM scheduled appearances at both Leeds and Reading. At present, the band’s Facebook page does not list any tour dates.
More concerns surround the record’s release. At the time of writing this, Polyvinyl has not issued a statement. According to an unconfirmed report, the label will refund those who return the album. For the moment, ‘Pageant’ is available on Spotify.
