Emo’s elder statesmen, American Football, have announced a handful of US tour dates, with the band playing the East and West coasts.
The summer tour sees the band playing two dates in California, with support provided by indie singer-songwriter, Phoebe Bridgers.
Five days later, the tour swaps California for Florida, with emo –revivalists You Blew It! taking over support duties.
American Football is currently touring their second, self-titled record. Released in autumn 2016; ‘American Football’ sees the band picking up where they left off on their 1999 record of the same name. Having perfected their twinkling indie-rock sound; chronicling the angst of impending adulthood, 2018 sees the band approaching middle-age and realising they haven’t quite got it all figured out yet.
The choice of You Blew It! is somewhat surprising, as the band announced their hiatus through social media, in November 2017. However, as they attest in a subsequent Facebook post, the opportunity to support such a legendary band, was too god to pass up:
‘Last year we made the decision to put the band on hold while we focused on aspects of our personal lives. As such, while we recognized that we would inevitably play shows again, we were just unaware it would be this soon. Considering the importance AF played in the formation of, and influence on our band, we knew passing on the opportunity to play with them would forever rest in the back of our minds. Until we rest again, we’re thankful to have another opportunity to see you all once more.’

Whether You Blew It! Intend to return as a band full-time remains to be seen. For now, their reunion is a welcome change from the spate of band breakups within the emo-revival scene.

FRI 3 AUGUST The Observatory North Park San Diego, CA SAT 4 AUGUST The Observatory Santa Ana, CA THU 9 AUGUST The Beacham Orlando, FL FRI 10 AUGUST Orpheum Tampa, FL SAT 11 AUGUST Revolution Live Fort Lauderdale, FL
