Last year saw two superb pieces of work from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. By now, most will be familiar with Cave’s incredible ‘Skeleton Tree’; one of the best albums of his near four decade career. The album also received a tie-in film, ‘One More Time With Feeling’. The film documented ‘Skeleton Tree’s’ creation but also gave an insight into Cave’s psyche following the death of his son in 2015.
A deeply affecting piece of film, one of the documentary’s most powerful moments came when Cave reads out a free-form poem, ‘Steve McQueen’, over footage of him and The Bad Seeds rehearsing the ‘Skeleton Tree’ track ‘Girl In Amber’. Visceral and surreal, it’s a piece of writing that needs to be heard rather than described, so listen and watch below. Although initially only shown at cinemas, ‘One More Time With Feeling’ sees home release on all of the usual formats today.
