It’s no secret that the sounds of Soul & Jazz, have crept back into the forefronts of our musical palette of late.
A new wave of UK artists have been trailblazing the way for a modern twist on the retro genres, leaving fans guessing who the next big name on the scene could be. You want our bet, it’s London-based songwriter SK.
Ahead of her first single launch, SK has spent the last few years perfecting her solo material while touring with her band, The Kings. Her first solo excursion was the outstanding single ‘Nostalgia’. The track went on to key support from the genres tastemakers including Atwood Magazine and Somehwere Soul. She’s also picked up key support from BBC Introducing, who have supported both singles to date. The new single ‘When You Know’, very much continues where she left off, with a gorgeous piece of instrumental soul that’s rich in heritage and musical delivery.
This is actually the prequel to Nostalgia. I’m one of those people who wears their heart on their fingertips, I met someone and I fell in love with them very quickly – we moved in together after 7 days. It was the way he looked at me, he saw completely and accepted all of my insecurities and flaws and loved me anyway. When you meet someone like that and it’s so good, it doesn’t feel real. It’s actually a conversation we had, I asked him what he’d say when people would ask him about us and everything happening so fast and he said “when you know, you know”.
