Early 2000s indie kids have been handed a fresh reason to feel hopeful about 2017,  with today’s announcement that The Shins will be releasing a new album this year.

The James Mercer-lead project’s fifth studio album, ‘Heartworms’, is set for release on 10 March, almost exactly five years after the release of their previous album, ‘Port of Morrow’, and sixteen years after their self-titled debut.

Today’s announcement was accompanied by the release of the album’s opening track, ‘Name For You’. The song, ‘Dead Alive’, which was released in October 2016, as a teaser, will also feature on the new album.

The March release will come in the middle of a brief tour of America and Europe, that will see the band playing one UK show, at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on 29 March.

‘Heartworms’ can be pre-ordered here.
