London-based Swedish future soul/r&b singer Shaqdi shares the video for ‘mom’ off her forthcoming second EP. In an ode to her Swedish mother, the track showcases Shaqdi’s ability to create meaningful R&B. The video features a montage of old footage from Shaqdi’s childhood.
Speaking on the track: Shaqdi said: “I wrote this song for my mom as a thank you for everything she’s done for me and for always being there no matter what. Growing up our family situation wasn’t always the easiest, but my mom somehow managed to carry me and my sister through it all. She’s been such a strong force throughout my childhood and this song is my humble attempt to give a little bit back to everything she’s given me.”
Shaqdi, who’s name comes from her Palestinian father, is an outsider changing the rules of the game. Whether it’s crafting her own beats or bringing her lyrics together from scraps of paper and endless voice notes on her phone, Shaqdi’s material is highly personal. Her new EP is due for release in the coming months.
