It’s been a rough couple of months for Queens Of The Stone Age fans. Ever since the band posted their cryptic ‘Coming TwentyFive’ teaser online, fans have been clutching at straws looking for some further clue as to when the band will release the follow-up to 2013’s ‘…Like Clockwork’. While no official word has yet been given on the status of the new album, one DJ at 104.1 KRZQ has taken it upon himself to throw the band’s fan-base a bone and shed some light on the group’s new single.
Chris Payne (@deftonesfreek) tweeted “Currently listening to new @qotsa … oh man, you’re in for a surprise” on Saturday, before going on to call the new single “a mid-up tempo sexy jam” and “the song that invites everyone to the party so they can get their groove on.” As well as commenting on the song itself, he also gave some indication of when we might hear it, saying “my contact has said radio gets the single in 2 weeks”. When pressed for details on the album’s release window, Payne remained non-specific but did say “I believe you’re right” to one twitter user when they asked him if the album would be released in August, as many fans are assuming.
Quite how much faith should be put in Payne’s claims remains to be seen but with some two months of silence on the matter from the band (their now infamously oblique ‘Coming TwentyFive’ teaser was posted at the start of April) any sign of material from the band being released sooner-than-later is welcome.
