Shoegaze innovators Ride announced that they were working on new material a couple of months ago. The first taste of their as-yet unnamed new album comes in the form of the newly released single ‘Charm Assault’. The band helped lay the groundwork for much contemporary Shoegaze, offering a more melodic alternative to the sonic assault of My Bloody Valentine. The group’s 1990 debut, ‘Nowhere’, is today regarded as a linchpin of the genre.

Ride last released material in 1996, so new work from the band is long overdue. ‘Charm Assault’ is a typical shot of melodic Shoegaze; bright, searing guitars rushing over a taut rhythm section. Describing the song, vocalist Andy Bell said that “Charm Assault is a pretty straightforward expression of frustration and disgust at the people who currently run our country.“
Although ‘Charm Assault’s parent album has yet to receive a name or release date, it has been confirmed that we’ll see it hit shelves sometime this year.
