Mildlife release new funky-space-electronic-prog single ‘Phase II’

Melbourne-based band Mildlife release video and brand new single: ‘Phase II’

The new single ‘Phase II’ is out now on 7″ vinyl via Research Records

Mildlife have released new single ‘Phase II’ on 7″ vinyl via Research Records. The song was inspired by the album track ‘Phase’ from their eponymous debut record that was released in the Spring of 2018. Artist, Dan Wild, explains the excellent video that illustrates the new song:

The intention for the ‘Phase II’ video was to traverse constructed landscapes that follow the tracks progression. Visually I wanted to pull focus through artificial forests, canyons and clouds. Pushing the concept of an abstracted first person journey that I feel the band is presenting with the song.

Combining hand drawn animation and analog video processing techniques gives the video a tactile feeling that compliments the tracks long form nature. I felt the music was able to breathe by using these techniques, I was very conscious of the video becoming either to overpowering or underwhelming.

Mildlife are currently on their debut UK+EU tour, of which the Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, and Brighton dates have sold out. Coming up on September 19th is their co-headline show with the jazz-funk quartet Expansions at Ghost Notes in Peckham, which promises to be a truly magical evening.
