There have been some mighty team-ups over the past few years. The Conservative and Liberal Democrats, the Avengers, and who could ever forget the Bionic Woman and Bionic Man. But after yesterday’s hints at a new single, via their twitter page, I’m certain the Manic Street Preachers have beaten all before them into submission with the news that their new single “Rewind the Film” would feature (on lead … yes lead vocals) a certain Mr Richard Hawley. Now that’s a team-up.
The result? A beautifully moving song and quite personal video shot in South Wales.
As we mentioned yesterday, James Dean Bradfield had hinted at two album releases. In his words he said that one would be “acoustic” and the other “more spikey”. If this song is anything to go by then we have been introduced to a taster of the former.
For a band whose lead singer has such a distinctive voice it seems incredible that they would replace it with another. However, Hawley’s voice is once again deep and mourningful and works beautifully with the subject matter of neglect and aspects of nostalgia shown in the 7 minute video.
There was more good news for fans of the band. The “Rewind the Film” album is to be released on 16th September 2013 and details of an accompanying tour were also released. The dates are as follows…
13th September – Newport, Centre
20th September – Dublin, Olympia
23rd September – Bristol, Colston Hall
24th September – London, Shepherds Bush Empire
27th September – Manchester, Ritz
29th September – Glasgow, Barrowland
