Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, and poet Jhamasa Lewis-Adams (AKA Jhamasa) releases the sultry neo-soul number “Blue Baby”, inspired by the ubiquity of social media and digital culture.
“Blue Baby” is littered with gentle R&B melodies and pulsing synths, Jhamasa’s sensual vocals drifting effortlessly over the rhythmic landscape. “The single was inspired by social media. It’s about the self induced depression we often put ourselves through by using technology to live faster, know more, and stay connected” she explains.
“It’s inspired by sultry, eclectic, and neo-soul digital sounds and accompanied by emotionally jazzy melodies and lyrics.”
Beginning her career as one half of the duo Jhamasa Corinthian, the pair released their mixtape “Retro Love Arcade” in 2013: a digital hybrid of soft R&B and soulful melodies. Drawing inspiration from this musical compositon Jhamasa began to record as a solo artist, releasing her first solo EP “24K” in 2016.
Growing up in foster care in Los Angeles, Jhamasa began writing poetry at a young age before turning her talent to song writing. During her early teens, she became interested in music production and joined the Black Eye Peas Peapod Music and Arts Academy, before graduating from Brentwood School and Jackson State University. Working with Deonis Cook and Tour Love on her sophomore EP “Eleven:11”, Jhamasa found artistic combatibility with Tour Love, who eventually became her primary production partner.
“Blue Baby” is indicative of Jhamasa’s ability to curate her own brand of digital R&B, showcasing an artist who has confidentally discovered her sound.
