Back with his second track of 2020, ‘Johanna’ is the beautiful new single from singer songwriter, Luca Wilding – the follow up to his recent debut single, ‘Heartachers’ (out now).
With masterful song writing, flawless vocals and a knack for writing lush, laidback contemporary folk-pop ‘Johanna’ showcases an artist primed for big things. Luca calls his music ‘dream-folk’ which is a perfect description of the melancholic, yet uplifting sound of this new London artist. “Johanna is a song about loss,” says Luca. “It tells the story of two people, one person reaching out towards the other and the other turning away. It’s about trying to do the right thing when you don’t know what the right thing is.”
“I tried to use this collection of symbols to represent the confused feeling of falling for someone and how this is tied to all these little signs we learn over the course of our lives. Sometimes at the root of these signs is truth and sometimes there’s not and sometimes we never get to find out.”
Raised in the grey anywhere of Greater London, Lucanever played an instrument in his youth. It was a family tradition of gunslinger ballads and time-old story-singalongs, and his eventual love for Leonard Cohen, that spurred him to begin song writing. Inspired later by a mixtape gifted to him by his supportive schoolteacher, he set out to achieve his ambition.
Signed to Abbey Records in 2019, his debut single, ‘Heartachers’ out earlier this year won praise from fans and critics alike. The track was premiered by US site Atwood Magazine, and was accompanied by a stunning short film, premiered by Wonderland Magazine. Made by award-winning filmmaker Patrick Fileti it’s a powerful piece of film that works beautifully with Luca’s song. Check it out below.
Both ‘Heartachers’ and ‘Johanna’ are taken from Luca’s debut album – expected later this year.
