Julien Baker, the singer-songwriter who brought us 2015’s ‘Sprained Ankle’ , a beautiful and intimate collection of acoustic songs, has unveiled a new single titled ‘Funeral Pyre’. The young Memphis musician just signed to indie-rock label Matador records, home to artists such as Cat Power, Savages and Yo La Tengo.
The 7-inch single will be released on March 17th and will feature title track and A-Side ‘Funeral Pyre’, a B-Side titled ‘Distant Solar System’, as well as two songs from the ‘Sprained Ankle’ sessions. On the same day, Matador will re-release ‘Sprained Ankle’ on CD and vinyl. ‘Funeral Pyre’, which is available now on Spotify and Bandcamp, retains her characteristically heartbreaking sound and personal lyrics. “Everything about the song is figuring out how you should act in your level of responsibility for your own health and to others in the dynamic of a relationship, which is a difficult lesson to learn,” Baker explains.
The singer-songwriter is set to start touring the US this month before her EU tour in the spring, which includes dates in London and Manchester.
