What with his antics in the world of the vinyl industry, Jack White has rarely been out of the news recently but we haven’t actually seen much in the way of new music from him for a while. Without any warning or build up, he’s dropped a surprise new single entitled ‘Battle Cry’. Largely instrumental, it’s an edgy, taut rocker that sounds like something that might have fitted well on The White Stripes’ ‘Icky Thump’, even if it is sans-vocals.

The song serves both as a standalone single and as the soundtrack to a new TV ad for sports company Warstic, in which White invested in last year. Collectors take note: the song will be released as a one sided gold wax 7″ on Record Store Day later this month.
