Hear The War on Drugs’ latest single ‘Strangest Thing’

Indie rock darlings The War on Drugs have dropped off the next single from their upcoming album, ‘A Deeper Understanding’, due on 25th August via Atlantic Records.

The extraterrestrial ballad, titled ‘Strangest Thing’, blends Americana and psychedelia over a sprawling set of fuzzy synth-work, culminating in an unshrinking guitar solo. Lead singer Adam Granduciel allows the instrumental plenty of time to breathe, floating in and out to deliver exasperated lines such as, “Am I just living in the space between the beauty and the pain?” Approaching seven minutes in length, the track is accompanied by an 8MM home-video-style visual of Granduciel loitering in front of what appears to be an aircraft hangar.

‘A Deeper Understanding’, the band’s first album since 2014’s ‘Lost in the Dream’, will be supported by an extensive fall tour, beginning in September with a show in their hometown of Philadelphia.

The track-listing for the new album is as follows…

01. Up All Night
02. Pain
03. Holding On
04. Strangest Thing
05. Knocked Down
06. Nothing To Find
