John.Mesh, former lead vocalist of Danish duo Slowes, debuts his first solo single via La Valigetta Records. Psychedelic yet modernistic, ‘True Hits’ 80s influenced aesthetic sparks a certain nostalgia for neon lights, late night drives, and slow dancing.
Already known for writing shimmery electronic pop jams, ‘U’ and ‘I Need You’, for UK label Distiller Records in 2017, Jack Kilburn now strikes out on his own with a joyful ode to celebration and revelation. ‘True Hits’ portrays his latest persona John.Mesh as a brilliant, larger-than-life individual. At the same time, he uncovers the ultimate secret: people will accept information if presented to them in a certain way. By referencing the controversial statesman Henry Kissinger, the lyrics allude to the impact of notions such as “power is the great aphrodisiac”
Drawing from the likes of Sébastien Téllier, Nick Cave, and Johnny Hallyday, Mesh is known for his natural aptitude for writing emotionally powerful and diverse songs. As a part of Slowes, John.Mesh was known to break the rules. Now, he follows the same mantra with a sound that could be considered eclectic ambiance – kitsch and pop yet thoughtful and experimental.
As a songwriter, Kilburn has already found approval from radio tastemakers such as Huw Stephens, Phil Taggart and Nemone at the BBC, as well as BEAT, Indie Shuffle, The Line of Best Fit, Dork and Clash. Following John’s first showcase at SPOT Festival in May 2018, ‘True Hits’ serves as an impressive first taste from his forthcoming debut EP.
