Combining subtle guitar twangs with haunting electronic soundscapes, Louder once again showcases DYVR’s unique ability to defy genre. His distinctive falsetto soars effortlessly over the majestic musicality, feeling instantly reminiscent of the likes of Sampha or James Blake. Known for writing poignant lyrics with a powerful message, with Louder, DYVR looks at the queer community and the sexual pressures that can occur within it. DYVR elaborates, “a lot of the community is under pressure to be sexually promiscuous. Sex is often treated transactionally and short term validation is a currency to be traded. I’m a queer person in a non-monogamous relationship, and it’s amazing to me how often I have conversations with people in the LGBTQ+ community who feel as though they are somehow betraying their ‘different-ness’ by wanting certain more traditional things from their romantic lives. Louder is about how we trivialise connections with people in order to maintain our queer identity”.
