The Brighton-based up and coming grunge pop band, Black Spring, recently released their full-on debut single, ‘Act My Age’. Overall, there is plenty of grungy attitude, searing guitar riffs and a heavy pulse with this track. Furthermore, this band is a group that knows what it is to be grunge.
They have stated they found stimulation from bands such as the Foo Fighters, Pixies, Artic Monkeys, Neck Deep and Nirvana to name but a few. However, the band then cleverly take those sounds and make something fresh and wholly their own, developing a modern grunge pop sound. As a result, they have their own identity and occupy it ably and with direction. Ultimately, that is what you are looking for in a band. Furthermore, this band knows themselves as artists completely.
The band met at Canterbury College. They collectively decided a move to Brighton would be the ideal place to launch a band. Also therefore to grow creatively in such a fertile, artistic environment, for which Brighton is widely known. It turns out that was the right decision for this band to find and develop their overall sound.
Moreover, the track has been produced by Ed John at Park Studios, and the final sound of ‘Act My Age’ demonstrates the originality and stellar song writing. Straight outta the gate, the guitar riff gets you, and with lead singer Sam Glen’s vocals and the stonking drums and bass, it’s a giant sound coming at you.
Overall, The track echoes all of the hallmarks of grunge without being too dark. The track doesn’t reside in too much pop-esque sound either, it is balanced ably to make it appealing to a wide range of fans. In all honesty, the track would fit well in large or small venues as it translates perfectly. Certainly, this is definitely one to get on your playlists now!
