Guitar-led indie rockers The Amazons have been setting the music world alight since their formation in 2014, and latest single ‘Black Magic’ is no exception. The band’s second consecutive single to be Mistajam’s ‘Hottest Record in the World’, electrifying riffs and heat-pounding drums lead this masterful grunge-infused indie rock anthem. Exhibiting his full vocal range, Matt Thompson’s use of falsetto contrasts beautifully with the infectious bassline, making it blindingly obvious why The Amazons are ‘officially the most hotly-tipped guitar band of the year’.
In stark contrast to the dark, almost haunting tone of previous single ‘Little Something’, this is a high-energy, head-banging, drunk-singing track, that is both polished and playful.

Thompson recently commented on the track ‘Black Magic is about the helplessness you feel when you realise the feelings you have for someone are no longer reciprocated. The despair at the awareness that there is nothing you can do to change the way they feel.’
The up-beat feel of the track clashes with the hugely emotive lyrics, adding a fantastic air of uncertainty to a song about uncertainty itself. ‘Black Magic’ will feature on The Amazons’ much-anticipated debut album, set to be released later in 2017.
The release of their latest single comes ahead of the quartet’s much anticipated headline 20-date UK tour, commencing on March 2nd in Southampton. With many shows having already sold-out, including London’s Dingwalls, and having been featured on many major festival line-up announcements, The Amazons are definitely a band on the rise.
