Mariah Carey has issued a statement about her New Years’ Eve performance, explaining that her “ear monitors were not working” due to “a production team with technical issues”. Her performance on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in Times Square took a turn for the worse when she stopped singing, with the pre-recorded vocals continuing to play. On New Year’s Day, Mariah Carey first response was simply “shit happens”. Some fans have expressed anger that she was preforming to pre-recorded music, although Carey responded on Sunday explaining that “it’s not practical for a singer to sing live and to be able to hear themselves properly in the middle of Times Square”. Carey went on to say “they [the production team] foiled me. Thus it turned into an opportunity to humiliate me”

Sources from Carey’s team have suggested that her performance was “sabotaged” to score higher TV ratings than usual. These sources have also said that her team repeatedly complained to Dick Clark Productions that her earpieces were not working, but nothing was done to solve the problem. Dick Clark Productions have responded by saying that these claims are “defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd”

Carey’s final response has been to “thank everyone for their support” and leave no doubt ahead of her upcoming tour that she can’t wait to sing for her fans again.
