Sometimes even summer can be an asshole. There’s something quite cynical about it, when the earth relentlessly flourishes and blooms, while the sun seems to be laughing down at you and your stagnating life. A feeling Máni Orrason is all too familiar with, seeing as his life really didn’t want to hop on that summer train last year. With ‘Privilege Of Time’, the second single from his upcoming EP ‘BABYANGEL’, the young Iceland native delivers his counter reaction to that experience and furthermore presents to us his personal summer hit.
The track was Máni’s breakout from both an artistic as well as a personal low: Having to see off his great love to the other side of the Atlantic was followed by an episode of longing and isolation. Until, during one of the many arduous songwriting sessions, the spark of summer finally ignited after all: ‘Privilege Of Time’, a dreamy love song that couldn’t possibly be any more light-footed and mellow, shakes off the heavy-heartedness and turns the sufferer back into a lover. Because – after all – that’s exactly what Máni is: a lover – even when he is stood by a window, longingly aching and waiting, and cheated by summer. “Being appreciated by someone else, increases your appreciation for yourself and for the world” the singer-songwriter, who now lives in Berlin, explains. Love has changed him; it’s calmed him down. And turning that mindset into a song does not require philosophical quotes or dramatic string arrangements.
The EP ‘BABYANGEL’, will be released in June 2019 via HummingRecords.
