Following radio support from Steve Lamacq and Chris Hawkins at BBC 6Music and two XS Manchester Radio Records Of The Week, fast-rising indie-rock teenagers Callow Youth return today with their Britpop-influenced new single Red Leather. Red Leather showcases a harder and heavier side to the band’s indie-pop songwriting and welds this to clubby, baggy-influenced beats.
“Red Leather was inspired by a pair of red leather pants a girlfriend bought, which I thought were cool as sh**, and a road trip that happened around that same time” explains frontman Alfie Turner on the new song.
The band have also announced they’ll be playing the Shiiine On Weekender in November, and a Manchester headline show at The Star & Garter on Friday 29th November.
At the forefront of the new indie rock revolution, things are moving fast for Callow Youth. Just over a year after their debut gig, their last Manchester show sold out in less than four hours and their fiery brand of hooky indie pop has earned them slots at Dead Dead Good Weekend, Dot To Dot Festival, Cotton Clouds Festival and Blackthorn Festival. With a debut album on the cards for early 2020, a growing following across social media and over 150,000 organic, fan-driven streams on Spotify already, Red Leather is their third official single.
