Acclaimed New Zealand five-piece LEISURE have announced their upcoming ‘SIDE A’ EP, due out 30th October via Nettwerk. Today, the band also shares the second track off their new project, ‘Spark It Up’.

Harnessing a mellow, blissed-out vibe from the offset, ‘Spark It Up’ pairs downbeat, psychedelic guitars with the most soothing of vocals. “‘Spark It Up’ is one of the first tracks we wrote on our writing trip in France,” LEISURE explains. “We had been away from our significant others for a few weeks so we were all feeling pretty sentimental. The song follows quite a strange structure, it starts with the chorus, with each of the boys following with their own verse depending on how they related to the chorus lyrics, giving the song various expressions of the same theme.”

The track follows recent single ‘Slipping Away’, the group’s first release of their new musical chapter, which will also feature on ‘SIDE A’. LEISURE first began crafting their EP during a writing trip in a small village on the outskirts of Paris, with the group recalling how they “started writing songs which were open and confident” and how this continued as they arrived home to their families.

‘Spark It Up’ and ‘Slipping Away’ are the band’s first releases since last year’s sophomore album TWISTER. 2019 also saw the New Zealanders successfully complete a European tour, which included sold-out dates in London and Berlin as well as a debut double performance at Brighton’s The Great Escape.

Forming in 2015 during a spontaneous trip up to New Zealand’s west coast, LEISURE quickly gained attention with their self-titled debut album. Released in 2016, LEISURE peaked at #2 in the NZ charts and received worldwide critical acclaim. The album also included a notable collaboration, ‘Nobody’, with US rapper GoldLink. Now with over 150 million streams to their name, they’re going the distance, at their own pace, in their own way.

One of the most prolific and talented groups on the circuit, ‘Spark It Up’ sets LEISURE up perfectly for the release of SIDE A.
