Ever fancied owning one of Kurt Cobain’s very own guitars? Well, now you can – provided you have the cash, of course. The late Nirvana frontman’s axe obviously won’t come cheap, and the bidding is already over $20,000 in only a day. Not only does the guitar have the rare distinction of being owned by one of the most famous musicians of all time, but it is in itself noteworthy simply for being a fairly unusual model. Rather than being one of Cobain’s signature Fender models, the guitar is a Hagstrom Blue Sparkle Deluxe – a model with a visual appearance suggesting a Les Paul and a Jaguar blended together, but with charm all of its own.

The guitar has been confirmed as Cobain’s by Nirvana roadie Earnie Bailey, who personally delivered the Hagstrom to Cobain in 1992. The guitar’s current owner is Nathan Fasold, owner of Portland guitar store Black Book Guitars; a shop which specialises in unique instruments. Not only is the guitar unique in that it was owned by Cobain but also in that it is literally a one off; having been converted to be played left handed, with all normal models being right handed. The guitar is thought to date back to around 1958, making it a vintage model even when Cobain owned it 25 years ago. 10% of the sale price will go to Portland based homeless charity, ‘Transition Projects’.
