Kiko Bun returns today with ‘Bad Boy Tenor’. The follow-up to ‘My Thing’ A blend of Reggae, early Dancehall and Rubadub, he explains “It’s influenced by the soundsystem culture between the 70s and 80s that I’m inspired by. A time when the wickedest riddim and rhyme would win pull ups from avid crowds and DJs. It’s sort of an introduction of myself to the world. Telling the listener a bit about me “I like to wear all my jewellery at once”. It’s flash, proud, just like old school Jamaican lyrics. A dance/sing along. A reflection of the modern reggae rude boy”.
It’s not often that an artist comes along with a truly unique demeanour, one that stands out as incomparable to the rest of the landscape. Yet North-West London’s Kiko Bun is one of these rare artists. Offering a contemporary voice for his generation over music that feels timeless.
Kiko’s music, while influenced by the sounds of Jamaican Roots, Dub, Rocksteady and Boom Bap, is a reflection of Kiko’s laidback lifestyle, and the reason why his fan-base has been building rapidly on the festival circuit following performances at Glastonbury, Boomtown, Leeds and Reading. After establishing an authentic reggae sound over the years, working with the likes of , Alborosie, Shy Fx, Chase And Status, and Ticklah (of Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings), as well as receiving radio support from world renowned tastemakers such as Sir David Rodigan and Julie Adenuga, Kiko is ready to take things to the next level. Following a handful of singles, including 2015’s “Sometimes” and 2016’s “Can’t Hold Back” the London native has performed with his band across the UK on a headline tour and has recently performed along side David Rodigan and The Outlook Orchestra at Rototom, Outlook Festival and the Royal Albert Hall to name a few.
‘Bad Boy Tenor’ is digitally released on July 15th, with a vinyl version (featuring a dub version by Ben McKone) coming soon. Pre-order now: https://kikobun.bigcartel.com
