hs. is the project of Oregon-based songwriters Justin Bjur and Alex Shane. Growing up alongside the Rogue River National Forest, the pair has fostered a spacious and emotion-focused sound deeply rooted in and inspired by their natural surroundings. A left-of-centre-pop songwriting duo based out of Portland, Oregon, the honor scouts’ impassioned and melody centric songwriting invokes names like James Blake, Frank Ocean, The Shins and Van Morrison.
With their second release of the year, hs. continue to syphon a true sense of vivid wanderlust through their atmospheric, and richly textured alt-pop. Biting drums and gritty synths bring the soothingly melancholic vocals and slick guitar licks into a tender balance, rewarding the listener with new textural discoveries upon every listen.
Speaking to the track they outline that, “‘slip and slide’ explores the feeling of longing for something great and all-encompassing all the while not necessarily knowing what that is. Do you know the feeling? When you have an overwhelming amount of emotion inside to achieve some great love or at least your stitched together idea of it.”
