The Great Escape‘s 15th birthday celebrations were already looking very exciting: Fontaines D.C., GoGo Penguin, Aitch and Ghostpoet were among the first near-300 acts announced so far. The seaside festival just kicked things up a notch, however, with the announcement that Paramore singer Hayley Williams will be making an appearance in East Sussex.
In what will be her first solo UK show, Hayley Williams will bring her forthcoming debut ‘Petals for Armor’ to Brighton. She will perform on Friday 15th May, and it seems as though she will take to the Beach venue. This also coincides with confirmation of a headline show at the Electric Brixton in London the following day.
Hayley Williams surprise-released the first five tracks in an EP in early February to acclaim. The rest of the album is scheduled for release on May 8th – one week exactly before her set at The Great Escape.
Speaking of her appearance at the Brighton festival, Williams stated: “Wow. I am going on tour. Myself. It’s not Paramore and truthfully, it’s just a little terrifying. But if I know anything, it’s that there’s no safer place (besides at home with my dog) than to be on a stage, in front of the people who I’ve grown up singing my lungs out for. There was a time I thought I wouldn’t tour Petals For Armor. What a joke. I must. It’s going to be so satisfying to feel the energy of a crowd that close again, especially while performing songs that feel so vital for me; songs I have never performed before for an audience.”
If you want to be a part of history at Hayley Williams’ first UK solo show, weekend and day tickets for The Great Escape are on sale now. Tickets for her headline show at the Electric Brixton go on sale on Friday 13th March.
The Great Escape takes place on Thursday 14th to Saturday 16th May 2020. The line-up so far can be viewed here.
