The iconic Shepherds Bush Empire in West London has been closed due to ‘serious structural damage’.

The Courteeners were due to play the venue on Friday night but the show had to be cancelled moments before doors opened. The venue apologised to fans, tweeting that they were having ‘structural problems‘. Courteeners’ frontman Liam Fray tweeted: “I know you’re all disappointed but if something happened to one of those balconies with all of you inside it does not bear even thinking about.”

Hawkwind were due to play the venue on December 20th but have moved their gig to The Coronet in Elephant and Castle. The wrote on Facebook: “As some of you may have heard, it seems Shepherds Bush Empire has been declared structurally unsafe and we have been told that they have had to cancel the rest of their shows this year.”

Other gigs scheduled in December include Clutch, Family, John Cooper Clarke, The Family Rain, The Twang and Kodaline.
