Gabi Garbutt follows the success of her widely lauded debut album and dates with The Libertines, with an all-new single ‘Genet’s Journey’, out this week.

After grabbing attention with her unique sound, mixing soul, rock & roll and punk influences with a poetic lyricism, this single adds new layers of opulent synthesisers to the already potent concoction.

Gebi says of the song: “I see this song as a journey through the mind and body with Jean Genet, guiding you through the arteries and veins as well as illuminating your memories, joys and fears.  The human body in the song belongs to anyone you’re connecting with; finding the commonalities in your experience of being human.”

The song was written and recorded at Gabi’s home in West London, with additional guitars by Dan Fatel.  Her brother Leo Garbutt completed production, mixing and mastering duties, while an alternative acoustic version was recorded and sent to Leo for mastering.

After widespread radio support from BBC6’s Cerys Matthews (including a live session), Chris Hawkins, and Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio London’s Gary Crowley and Radio X’s John Kennedy,  and tours with The Libertines and Edwyn Collins in 2019, Gabi Garbutt & The Illuminations head out on the road in October for a re-scheduled UK tour as guests of The Boomtown Rats.
