Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls have announced the release of a new album, ‘Live In Newcastle’, which is due for release on April 24, 2020 via Xtra Mile Recordings/Polydor Records.
The 20 song set list was recorded at the O2 City Hall in Newcastle during Turner’s 2019 headline tour in support of his most recent release, ‘No Man’s Land’
The tour saw Turner depart from his usual raucous live shows to a more nuanced and unplugged set, performing songs with and without The Sleeping Souls to a seated audience, creating a new experience for himself and his audience.
Speaking about this alternative approach to his live shows, Frank notes: “The story-telling set that I put together with the Sleeping Souls last year was a new venture, an experiment, a risk, and in the end a huge success – I couldn’t be more proud of the way we found a new angle on my songs and my live show. I’m excited that we managed to capture the magic and get it out there for everyone to enjoy.”
This news will be welcomed by many as the COVID-19 pandemic has put a stop to any live shows indefinitely with many artists turning to live streaming performances, keeping connected to their fans, none more so than Frank who’s #IndependentVenueLove series of fundraiser gigs were created to provide support to the UK’s independent music venues during the current coronavirus crisis.
The series has already helped to raise enough funds to save Southampton’s Joiners Arms from closure, and has also provided over £10,000 in donations for London’s beloved Nambucca venue.
