Weekend at the Edge of the Lake is gearing up for its twelfth edition this week as the festival prepares to showcase its charming colective of visual art, culture and music.

Graced with the title “City of Sun” by its residents, the festival is encircled by the emerald waters of Geronde Lake and the mountainous canton of Valais. Nestled in the heart of Switzerland’s French region, the luscious greenery and rolling hills provide an intensely beautiful backdrop for cultural fanatics to experience the artistic and musical agenda.

Each year the organizers have combined European underground talent with established artists in order to craft a distinguished line up, successfully appealing to an audience with diverse musical tastes. French electronic music producer Thylacine is one to look out for this year, pairing dreamy cinematography with electronically intricate piano sets. His 2016 concept album ‘Transsiberian’ was composed over a 5,000 mile journey between Moscow and Vladivostok, blending the sounds of a busy train station with deep house beats. The final product was a celebration of culture and music, and Thylacine’s unique live set is guaranteed to be a visually arresting performance.

Romare, the turntable master known for fusing decades of African-American styles into a dancefloor friendly format, will also be performing at the festival, accompanied by his full band for two live DJ sets. German techno marching band Meute will also showcase the festival’s versatility in genre and consistent quality, with the artists joining the ranks of acclaimed past contributors Bonobo, Fakear, Gramatik, Ame & Dixon and Nightmares On Wax.

This family orientated event offers revelers the chance to relax in one of Europe’s most beautiful settings. The holistic arts festival is swiftly becoming renowned for its carefully selected line ups, allowing onsite visitors the chance to engulf themselves in a plethora of different artistic media and activities. Beach animations and water sports are among a few of the enjoyable pastimes available to attendees, as well as a visual arts domain playing host to numerous artistic collaborations between street artists, photographers and sculptors.

Switzerland’s best kept secret is set to be an enchanting event.
