The hub of all things to do with new music, The Great Escape has revealed over 100 new additions to this year’s lineup, set to take Brighton by storm yet again between the 19th – 21st May.
Boasting a variety of returning favourites and fresh new talent, the announcement is lead by Sound Of 2016 favourites Blossoms, who’ll be bringing their cinematic blend of synth led indie pop to the festival for a set that’s sure to cement their position as ones to watch this year. They’ll be joined by fellow rock chasers Spring King, whose star has continued to rise since their raucous single ‘City’ became the very first song played on Apple’s Beats 1 radio station. Both are set to touch down at The Great Escape for undeniable festival moments, and a chance to catch them before they take that next step to bigger venues.
The flourishing return of grime music is represented heavily at The Great Escape with new additions coming in the form of Lady Leshurr, Frisco, Lewisham’s finest Elf Kid and the legendary figure of D Double E for performances that are only set to confirm why grime is one of the most exciting genres in world music. Southampton’s finest Band Of Skulls will also be making the journey down the south coast, bringing an exemplary back catalogue of heavy riffs alongside some promising new material that’ll shake Brighton to its core.
Following on from the already announced “Spotlight Show” from Oh Wonder (performing a.t All Saint’s Church with Shura and Mura Masa), today sees the announcement that Malian rock heroes Songhoy Blues will return to the festival, after spending 2015 spreading their sensational story of redemption and hope across the world. They’ll be heading up a Friday night show at The Old Market with support from Fatoumata Diawara.
Other highlights taking to the Brighton seafront this year include the unmatched pop prowess of Transviolet, scuzzy moonlighters The Big Moon, St Lucia and his dexterous electro bliss, the heavy punk sensibilities of Chastity Belt and the soulful crooning of Cameron AG.
